Your first-week checklist

The handful of things to take care of when you get to town.

  • Set up utilities in your name: electric, water, gas and internet. Ask your landlord which companies serve the address (see Utilities).
  • Get weather alerts on your phone. Spring storms here are serious (see Weather).
  • Find your closest ER and urgent care before you need them.
  • Moving here for good? Arkansas gives new residents 30 days to get an Arkansas driver's license and register vehicles at a local Revenue Office. Start at MyDMV.Arkansas.gov.
  • Enroll the kids: see our School Guide.
  • Forward your mail through USPS.
  • Join the Facebook group and introduce yourself. Locals are happy to help.

If you're working here temporarily and keeping your home state, check with your employer and home state about license and registration rules.
